Two Projects Underway and 3 More to Be Started Soon

Mostafa Kouchaki was born in Shemiran in 1958, graduated from mechanical engineering course (heat and fluids major) at Khajeh Nassir-ed-Din Tousi University in February 1985, and was employed by gas industry in 1987. Since the beginning of his career, he has been working with Engineering and Technical Services Bureau of Engineering Department and is currently in charge of construction and commissioning of gas transmission pipelines at Gas Engineering and Development Company. He is also in charge of engineering and design of gas transmission pipelines. During 23 years of service in gas industry, he has been a member of specialized committee in charge of formulating standards, IGS, IPS, and the committee in charge of determining sanctuaries for the National Iranian Gas Company. He has also taught at various educational courses.

Asked about his activities in the company, he said, “Designing gas transmission pipelines, gas compression station, pressure control and gas gauging posts, and even designing gas supply networks are done at Engineering and Technical Services Bureau and all design documents are sent to executive managers as a single package. At present, changes have been made to organization of the company. As a result of those changes all projects should be carried out as E[1], PC[2], or EPC[3] by consultants and contractors with a rank. Engineering and construction units of various projects will have to control and steer projects which are carried out by design consultants and contractors and under supervision of supervisory and workshop consultants.”

Kouchaki noted that the number of gas transmission pipelines has decreased compared to previous years, adding, “Lat year, we were implementing 14 projects at the same time, but their total number is six. One project has been finished, two are underway and three more are going through tender bid formalities.”

The official in charge of construction and commissioning of gas transmission pipelines stated, “At present, construction of 56”, 10th trunkline, which starts at Pataveh compression station and continues to Kalleh Bridge in south Isfahan, is underway. The pipeline running for 25 km from Urmia to the industrial park with a diameter of 30” is progressing from Urmia toward Salmas and is meant to supply needed gas to Urmia industrial park.

The project for construction of a station to measure the gas which is exported to Armenia has been finished. The project for changing parts of the 2nd trunkline at Kangan and Farashband over an approximate length of 60 km (as PC), the project for design, procurement and commissioning of Pataveh 4 gas compression station (as EPC) and the project for construction of the third Azarbaijan gas transmission pipeline (as PC) are on the agenda and going through tender bid formalities. Contractors will be chosen soon and projects will get underway.”

Asked about the relationship between a boss and other employees, Kouchaki said, “This depends on education, upbringing and training of every person. Theoretical management education includes important sociological and psychological issues and is a very important factor for establishment of any relationship between managers and their subordinates. Technical knowledge of managers and chairpersons is also very important because it allows them to control their staff with more dexterity. Another important specification of a boss is to identify committed employees who do their job honestly and are not interested in flattery.”

Explaining about correcting consumption model in workplaces, he said, “This issued can be discussed from two standpoints. One is a general point of view which focuses on saving on water, power, energy and other resources and is very important. Of course, we must come up with a suitable definition of correct consumption pattern because saving alone will not amount to a correct consumption pattern.

"A second viewpoint, which is very important, is correcting professional and specialized patterns. For example, in our own organizations, if we observed and reviewed all design, construction, procurement and commissioning standards or strictly observed all relevant technical specifications and standards, we would have taken a big stride.”

As his last word, Kouchaki said, “A sincere relationship between every person and his/her God, will pave the way for establishment of reasonable social and work relations and positive impact of such a relationship will be felt by the person in short term or by exercising some patience.”
