IGEDC CEO Emphasizes Support for Knowledge-Based Activities

TEHRAN (IGEDC) - The CEO of the Iranian Gas Engineering and Development Company (IGEDC), Reza Noushadi, underscored the company's commitment to supporting knowledge-based activities at a carbon capture summit.

The event, held on Wednesday, May 8, took place on the sidelines of the 28th Iran International Oil, Gas, Refining, and Petrochemical Exhibition.

Key attendees included Shohreh Hagjouei, Head of the Strategic Technology Development Center of the Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology, and Kazem Kashfi, Energy and Carbon Manager at the National Iranian Gas Company.

Noushadi stated that IGEDC, leveraging years of successful experience in engineering and the domestic production of advanced equipment, is now focusing on development with a special emphasis on supporting knowledge-based and science-driven initiatives.

He stressed the importance of timely engagement with advancements in carbon gas collection technology.

"Just as knowledge-based companies have captivated the world in defense and missile sectors, bringing credibility and power to our country, we have indigenized advanced equipment such as turbo compressors and turbines through a $2 billion investment in the gas industry," Noushadi said.

Noushadi also mentioned the United Nations' initiatives since 2015 to combat global warming, emphasizing that all countries, including Iran, a major producer of the cleanest fossil fuel, must develop new plans and strategies.

Addressing opinions that view decarbonization as a form of neo-colonialism aimed at neutralizing the territorial advantages of developing countries, he insisted that while such concerns should be acknowledged, progress and development must not be hindered.

Despite significant efforts over the past two decades to improve the quality of gasoline and diesel in Iran, Noushadi pointed out that some critics provide misleading information.

He clarified that pollution measured by monitoring stations indicates issues unrelated to CO₂ concentration but stemming from other factors.

Noushadi concluded that carbon capture projects should not incur excessive costs. Instead, they should include economically viable plans with favorable returns on investment, such as carbon storage and conversion into valuable products.

The event concluded with the unveiling of the carbon capture call poster in the presence of summit attendees.
