2nd Gas Line Connecting Turkmenistan to Iran Opens

 

The second gas pipeline to take Turkmen gas to Iran was opened on January 6, 2009 through a ceremony in Sarakhs, Razavi Khorasan province, which was attended by managing director of Gas Engineering and Development Company and a group of local officials.

According to a report by the Public Relations Department of the National Iranian Gas Company, Mr. Gharibi, managing director of Gas Engineering and Development Company, addressed the audience saying that construction of the 48” pipeline from Sarakhs border to Shahid Hasheminejad refinery (35 km) was started in October and the project was finished in 100 days.

He added that the pipeline is supposed to transfer a daily amount of 45 million cu. m. of gas per day and will be built in two phases.

“Today, the first phase is inaugurated from Dowlatabad gas field in Turkmenistan to Shahid Hasheminejad refinery over 35 km. This phase has cost about 35 billion tomans,” he said.

Gharibi added that the remaining 20 km of the pipeline will be finished next Iranian year (starting March 21, 2010) to increase daily gas transfer capacity from Turkmenistan to Iran to 33 million cu. m.

He added that the amount could be increased to 50 million cu. m. in next phases.

The gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to Iran was officially inaugurated on the above date at Dowlatabad region of Turkmenistan through a ceremony attended by presidents of Iran and Turkmenistan, Iranian Minister of Petroleum Mirkazemi, and Mr. Oji, managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company.
