2nd Phase of Turkmen-Iran Gas Pipeline to Become Operational by Winter

Managing Director of Iran Gas Engineering and Development Company Alireza Gharibi has said the construction of a 48-inch pipeline to import Turkmen gas to Iran is underway between Sarakhs and Sangbast (2nd phase) which extends from Shahid Hashemi-Nejad Refinery up to Mashad on a length of 120 km.

According to Shana, Gharibi made the remark on the sideline of a ceremony held to inaugurate the 7th gas trunkline in Iranshahr, in the southeastern Sistan-Baluchestan Province on August 23.

Noting that the pipes required for this part of the project have been procured, Gharibi cited 32 obstacles in the way of the 120-km route which he said had made work difficult. However, he said, despite all these difficult obstacles such as passing through the main Mashad-Sarakhs road as well as Kashfroud river, efforts are being made to launch the 2nd phase of Turkmen-Iran gas pipeline by the coming winter.

Underlining the importance of the pipeline and its operation in due time, the IGEDC managing director said: “To this end, we have increased the number of working groups as well as machinery in the operational field to speed up the construction of the pipeline.”

He also said that with the inauguration of the project, the northern and northeastern provinces in Iran will no longer face low gas pressure, especially during the cold season.
