10th Gas Transfer Pipeline, Replacement of 2nd Pipeline Unique in Terms of HSE

In an interview with the Public Relations Department of Gas Engineering and Development Company, Mr Salmani, executive of the gas transfer pipeline plan, has elaborated on projects to be implemented under this plan, excerpts of which are as follows:

The gas transfer plan currently includes the following five active projects:

1-    Construction of continuation of the 10th nationwide gas transfer pipeline (Petaveh / Pol Kaleh)

2-    Replacement of parts of the second "56 nationwide pipeline (Kangan -Farashband)

3-    Installation of high pressure gas compressor facilities of Petaveh (4)

4-    Optical fibre transmission line of Azarbaijan 3rd gas pipeline

5-    Project for the 9th pipeline or continuation of the 6th nationwide pipeline (Dehgolah - Bazargan)

Each of the projects has its own specification the most important of which is the difficulty in the pipeline construction, especially in areas parallel with current gas conducting pipelines and under special care which necessitates application of HSE directives and the age-long experience of the colleagues which have so far maintained safety of the project.

Project for construction of continuation of the 10th nationwide gas transfer pipeline (Petaveh / Pol Kaleh)

Operation of 10th nationwide gas transfer pipeline between Petaveh - Pol Kaleh which starts from the site of high pressure gas compressor (S2) in Petaveh and runs up to the entrance of the high pressure gas compressor site in Pol Kaleh. The length of the pipeline is approximately 175 km with a diameter of "56 and an operation pressure of 1050 pound/square inch. In continuation, through construction of about 32 km pipeline with a diameter of 40 inches it connects to Isfahan.

An appropriate number of receiver and transmitter stations have been anticipated in this project. One of the specifications of this project is the difficulty of its operation as it is situated along with gas conducting pipeline and about 90 underpasses mostly with 56 high pressure gas conducting pipelines. The vigilant and untiring personnel, specially in the current year which has been designated the year of “economic jihad”, are making utmost efforts while observing HSE directives.

Project for replacement of second nationwide pipeline (Kangan -Farashband) with PC method

This project concerns replacement of parts of the 56-inch second nationwide pipeline (Kangan - Farashband), totally in 60 km, which would be implemented in two separate parts:

The first piece, situated 24 km of the second nationwide pipeline and with a diversion from the direction, continues towards the loop pipeline. The major part of the direction is situated on the right-hand side of the loop pipeline and about three km adjacent to the route of the second nationwide pipeline. The piece is ended at km 63. The pipeline route passes through the slippery heights of Maddeh Kooh as well as the seasonal wild rivers as such that in some parts for carrying the pipeline use of side boom or specific machinery is urgently essential.

The second piece has been implemented from km 160 to km 181, about 21 km, between the second  nationwide pipeline and the nationwide loop pipeline which is located in a severely dangerous area and very hard for operation as the transit of machinery between the gas conducting and rather old pipelines with high pressure threatened the hard working colleagues in different sections. However, the work was finished thanks to the directives issued by the Technical Inspection Department, to which we are all indebted. I sincerely thank all the colleagues in different sectors, especially those in the Technical Inspection and Safety departments which performed the required safety measures in this regard and hope that their continued cooperation in this project would safeguard health of the colleagues who are implementing heavy projects of the company. With regard to the speedy implementation of the project which has been demanded by the honorable officials, we hope that up to this coming winter we could accomplish such a grave task.

Installation of facilities for high pressure gas compressor in Petaveh 4

This project which, due to the density of second, third and fourth gas pressure stations, has been implemented in Baak, a village in Yasouj, enjoys an outstanding feature with regard to the scarcity of enough space and tight neighborhood of the pipelines which are being administered separately. Therefore, any negligence in observing HSE directives could result in massive loss of lives in addition to expanded financial damage and, even more importantly, could affect gas conducting to all parts of the country.

The respectful and painstaking colleagues are fully aware that observance of all HSE regulations in that region is of priority without any negligence. Therefore, the contractors, the executive and the consultant are obliged to observe all the regulations and standards and with the Grace of Almighty God the project would be accomplished safely.

This project is for the installation of facilities for high pressure gas compressor within 775 days by taking workshop equipment into consideration. Operations are in satisfactory condition but unfortunately we are facing problems with regard to hard currency financing and supply of required equipment. We hope that under the guidelines of the managing director and other directors of the company, the prevailing problems would be solved as soon as possible and overall implementation of the project in engineering, designing, purchasing and implementing would progress harmoniously.

Telecommunication project for the 3rd gas transmission line of Azarbaijan

The project is underway with good progress and while facing no executive problem, it is experiencing some financial difficulties. The project has been implemented from Saveh to Urmia and from Tabriz to Noordoz on the Armenian border. The transit pipeline is about 670 km from Saveh to Urmia and 110 km from Tabriz to Noordoz on which telecommunication facilities would be installed. Optic fiber has already become operational in Saveh to Urmia region, except for Goy Aghaj to Miandoab (about 100 m) and from Tabriz to Noordoz and currently the contractor would implement the remaining 100km.

Altogether, 63 telecommunications and network management stations would be implemented in Tehran (Rey) and in Tabriz.

Sixteen VHF stations are located on this route, 13 of which on Saveh to Urmia and 3 on Tabriz to Noordoz directions which would become operational for radio coverage on the route of the pipeline. The project would be completed in 550 days plus a year for maintenance. We hope that in the light of the experiences gained in this project, greater strides would be taken in other important projects of the Gas Engineering and Development Company

Project for the 9th pipeline or continuation of the 6th nationwide pipeline (Dehgolah - Bazargan)

In this sector one of the most important projects of the National Gas Company and the Gas Engineering and Development Company has been defined and currently all the affiliated companies are making efforts for realization of targets stipulated in this project. Export of natural gas to Europe is among specifications of this project. On the basis of the Five-Year Development Plan, in the next five years 32 billion cubic meters of gas would be exported to European countries annually. The project had been defined for several years but has not become operational for certain reasons. Now with the mobilization of all forces the project is underway and we hope it would become operational soon.

It should be noted that the entire 9th nationwide pipeline from Assalouyeh to Bazargan has been designed in details and finance stage is underway for the purchase of required items and we hope that the project would become operational on time.

Specifications of the first stage: This outstanding project is 600 km in length and covers from Dehgolan to Bazargan. It is 56 inches in diameter and possesses five high pressure compressors.

The pipeline is about 1800 km from Assalouyeh to Bazargan and is 56 inches in diameter. It possesses 17 high pressure gas compressors. We hope through domestic and foreign financing the project would be completed in an appropriate time. Suitable infrastructures and essential financing are taking shape at the Gas Engineering and Development Company and it is hoped that through a sound approach and with regard to economic and political outlooks the project would be completed as soon as possible.
