Imminent commissioning of the longest gas transmission pipeline to north and northeast country

The 2nd north and northeast gas pipeline, which aims to make gas production more balanced and is to be the longest gas pipeline in the country, will be made operational in the near future.
According to Public Relations Department, the pipeline will have varying diameters of 42 and 48 inches and will make up for gas shortage in Semnan, Golestan, Mazandaran and Khorasan provinces.
North and northeast gas pipeline starts at Parchin in east Tehran and after crossing such cities as Garmsar, Semnan, Damghan, Shahroud, Sabzevar, and Sangbast, will connect to 36 inches gas pipeline of Khorasan Razavi province.
The length of Parchin–Semnan segment is 170 km, Semnan–Shahroud is 173 km, Shahroud–Sangbast I 455 km (48”), Meiamei–Dasht is 106 km and Damghan–Neka is 160 km (42”).
The north and northeast gas pipeline has been designed for a pressure of 71 bars (1,050 pounds / square inches) and avails of 9 pig sending and receiving stations in addition to 26 valves and 14 cathodic protection stations. It can transmit a daily amount to 60 million cubic meters of gas.
The first stage of the project includes 419 km of 48 inch pipeline crossing through Parchin– Semnan–Shahroud and Meiamei as well as 106 km of 42 inch pipeline from Meiamei to Dasht totaling 525 km.
The costs of this part of north and northeast gas transmission pipeline include design, construction, land acquisition, and procurement of goods and equipment by relying on high capacities of domestic managers, experts and contractors and amounts to over 6,000 billion rials. The first phase of the pipeline will allow supplying more gas to Semnan, Golestan, and Mazandaran provinces amounting to 15 million cu. m. a day.
In the near future, when 380 km of 48” are laid between Meiamei and Sangbast, a 42” branch is extended from Qousheh in Damghan up to Neka gas compression station and is then connected to 30” north pipeline after a distance of 160 km, and when three compression stations are built in the second phase of the line, gas supply capacity through north and northeast pipeline will increase and the way will be paved for gas supply to Neka power plant.
Obtaining all environmental permits, not passing through residential areas, considering possible development of cities along the way, predicting future needs of those cities, predicting change of existing oil and gas pipelines along the way, predicting fiberoptic operations and the possibility for gas transmission from Parchin to Khorasan and vice versa (two-way gas flow) are among the most important features of north and northeast gas transmission pipeline.
The line has been built by domestic contractors including Tehran Jonoub Contractor Company, Jahad Nasr Misaq Ahvaz, Jahad Nasr Kerman, Ahvaz and Sadid pipe mills, as well as Pars and Petro Farayand Energy companies.
