Phase II of Shurijeh Gas Storage Achieves 42% Completion

TEHRAN (IGEDC) - Reza Noshadi, CEO of the Iranian Gas Engineering and Development Company (IGEDC), has announced a 42% completion rate for the second phase of the Shurijeh gas storage project in the Khanqiran operational area.
In a progress review meeting, Noshadi highlighted the comprehensive advancements within the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC). "We have achieved a significant milestone, managing 440,000 kilometers of transmission and distribution networks, pressure boosting stations, and increasing the number of gas refineries to 20. Our production, refining, transmission, and distribution capacity has exceeded one billion cubic meters," he stated.
Noshadi emphasized the maturity of the national gas network and outlined IGEDC's strategic focus on multiple gas storage projects to ensure energy stability, particularly in northern and northeastern Iran. The Shurijeh project is a key initiative aimed at maintaining energy supply and stability in these regions.
In the past three years, IGEDC has undertaken various initiatives, including upgrading the northern and northeastern gas networks by launching the Qom-Parchin pipeline to ensure network independence.
Noshadi added, "The completion and commissioning of the Aradan pressure boosting station, which increased daily gas transmission capacity by 10 million cubic meters, and the Shurijeh storage project are crucial. The Shurijeh project, now 42% complete, is designed to store gas during warm months for use in the cold season and peak consumption periods."
Noshadi also mentioned significant measures taken to stabilize gas supply in Torbat-e Jam, Razavi Khorasan province, and a new 176-kilometer pipeline from Zabol to Sarbisheh to enhance gas supply in South Khorasan province this winter.
Abdolrahman Keshvari, Deputy Energy Chief of the Passive Defense Organization, underscored the strategic importance of the Shurijeh storage phases. "Phases one and two of the Shurijeh storage complex are major passive defense projects. Given the success of phase one in addressing winter gas imbalances, the expansion is vital," he said.
Keshvari stated that the visit to the Khanqiran operational area aimed to review current progress and facilitate the commissioning of phase two. "Operational plans, requirements, and considerations will be communicated to relevant agencies following approval to clarify their roles in these projects," he added.
Referencing the Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Refinery and the East Oil and Gas Production Company, Keshvari noted the transformation of the facility into a complex necessitates a comprehensive regional plan to address challenges and ensure national coordination.
He concluded by acknowledging the progress in the passive defense sector at the Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Refinery. "The reports presented at this meeting indicate significant advancements in 2023. We anticipate achieving favorable outcomes in 2024 with the implementation of pre-determined plans," Keshvari said.
